Glitches, and Bugs, and Spam, Oh My!

“Glitches, and Bugs, and Spam, Oh My!”
By: Corey Thompson, “The Thirsty Quill”
Today’s entry is more or less for ‘housekeeping’ purposes. Over the past couple of weeks, “The Thirsty Quill” has fallen prey to a number of issues that I would like our readers to be made aware of.
None of these threaten the future of ‘The Quill,’ but they have become noticeable problems that need to be addressed.
First of all, we’ve been bombarded with obtrusive ‘spam.’ Now unless you venture daily into our “Forums” section (“Dueling Quills”), you probably haven’t noticed an issue. Each day, spam is creeping into our forums and leaving unwanted (and sometimes offensive) posts. These have included various links to credit card offers, advertisements for cheap jewelry and perfume, and links to pornographic websites and chat rooms. Please know that we are doing our best to keep such nonsense off of our website. Obviously we would never knowingly allow such content on ‘The Quill.’ Unfortunately, without a legitimate full-time technical team, we remain vulnerable to such attacks as all websites do.
Second, there have been some issues with the delivery and posting of some of our entries. The bulk of this problem arises from the delivery of our subscription service. Articles are posted, yet notification to our readers is sometimes taking a full day to reach them. For instance, Friday’s article (“Iceberg, Right Ahead!”) was scheduled for afternoon publication and delivery. Our email subscription service did not make the delivery to those who have signed up until Saturday. Furthermore, our subscription service has recently delivered headlines for articles that appeared on ‘The Quill’ weeks ago! Needless to say, we are working hard to resolve these ‘quirks’ in the system.
Therefore, Friday’s article (“Iceberg, Right Ahead!”) will remain posted as the main article for today. We will attempt to resume with a ‘normal schedule’ tomorrow.
We want to apologize for any frustration these ‘glitches’ may have caused. However, these are the perils that all websites are ultimately faced with at some point.
As always, we appreciate your continued support. It is because of you, our readers, that this website remains a very worthwhile venture for us each and every day.

I officially turn in my application to delete bad threads from the forums. Give me total administrative access to push the “Delete Thread” button. I accept no responibilities for anything else that happens, but I can press that button. I’ll just need $30 an hour for monitoring and an integrity payment of $700 so I know you’re serious about this.

But on a serious note, can you change the format of the username creation so that you personally have to approve each new user? That would prolly stop the spam on the forums.
