A Conservative Survival Guide In A Nation Gone Liberal
By Corey Thompson, filed in Corey Thompson, General on Feb.17, 2009
It’s no secret that the mainstream media in America has drifted, shifted, and fallen overboard to the Leftwing Liberal ideology. Over the past three months, I have received dozens of emails and private messages from readers who have been curious about the resources available to them that offer a Conservative perspective in the Liberal-saturated media market here in America.
I provided a few links to some of the resources here at ‘The Thirsty Quill,’ but I’d like to spend a few minutes today discussing these in detail. While this list is quite abbreviated, I do hope that it provides a nice “foundation” for those who seek Conservative views and opinions in a nation gone Liberal.
This list will primarily focus on national media outlets, as our audience has grown outside of the local and regional boundaries of our earlier days.
If you would like additional resources, or care to offer your own, please feel free to contact ‘The Quill’ or post your comments below.
Cable News
This is simple, as there is only one choice here: FoxNews.
Sorry folks, but it’s time to turn off CNN and MSNBC. Those two outlets are so far “Left,” they can’t even see the “middle of the road.” While CNN does offer a little bit of ‘balance’ (although I hate to even call it that), MSNBC is the ultra-Liberal network of the day.
Both CNN and MSNBC are firm in their support of Obama and his ideology, and both were steadfast in their ‘unspoken’ (outspoken) endorsements of him during the campaign. They have repeatedly bashed American troops and former-President George W. Bush in their effort to slander the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I could go on, but it’s just time to wise up my fellow Conservatives…tune away from CNN and MSNBC!
FoxNews claims to be “fair and balanced.” To be quite honest, that’s not exactly true. They do have a small handful of Liberal hosts and commentators (most notably Geraldo Rivera), but make no mistake, FoxNews is the place for Conservative news coverage. Pro-American and Rightwinged, hosts such as Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, and former Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee offer viewers a Conservative perspective on the major stories, events, and issues of the day.
Tune to FoxNews!

Magazines
You have to trust me here…cancel your subscriptions to Time, Newsweek, and U.S. News & World Report! Sadly, these pillars of the American media have become part of “the dark side,” and they are in the tank for the Democrats and the Liberal movement. If you are reading any of these on a regular basis and can’t see their slant toward the Left, then you’re where I was just a year or so ago: addicted to nothing more than the longstanding name and reputation that these carry.
Times have changed my friends, and so should you. Break your addiction, save your money, and dump these now!
I highly recommend you invest in these three Conservative magazines:
Townhall, The Weekly Standard, and National Review.
All are informative and clearly pro-Conservative/Republican. Furthermore, each offers a website that should be added to your “favorites” right away. There are others, but these are my top-three recommendations to take the place of your outdated Time, Newsweek, and U.S. News subscriptions…that I hope you’ll be canceling later today.

Radio
This is tough, because America is crisscrossed by hundreds of syndicated and local radio personalities, many who carry a variation of a much larger message or ideology.
I recommend that you find out what talk radio resources and personalities are available in your own community, and then research what they’re ‘preaching’ for 2-3 hours every day. The vast majority of AM radio stations across America are dominated by Conservative hosts. It is the one medium which we currently control.
In my local market (Charlotte, NC), we’re fortunate enough to have an AM station that is almost entirely controlled by Conservative voices (WBT 1110 AM). I encourage you to find what’s on in your own neighborhood.
Nationally, Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh are the heavyweights. I realize that Rush is quite controversial, and many think him to be over-the-top. But if you are truly looking for a ‘point man’ at the front of the Conservative movement, he’s your guy.

The Internet
I could literally spend hours handing out scores of web addresses and links that would satisfy your craving for Conservative websites. There are hundreds (if not thousands) available. However, that mammoth number still pales in comparison to those that are Liberal in nature.
Let me just say this: ladies and gentlemen, you have to stop getting your Internet news from Yahoo, MSN, and CNN (although I will admit that CNN is the fastest at reporting Breaking News). I don’t care if it says “Associated Press” or whatever, I promise that 90% of the time it will have a Liberal slant (obviously if it pertains to politics).
You need only the following list to get you started…
Your News Homepage: “The Drudge Report” www.drudgereport.com
It lacks all the “bells and whistles” of other news sites, but you won’t find a better compilation of Conservative articles and resources…anywhere!
Conservative News: “FoxNews.com” www.foxnews.com
As mentioned in the Cable News section (above), it’s the source for Conservative news in America. It also has multiple links for O’Reilly, Hannity, Beck, Huckabee, etc.
Conservative News/Opinions: “CNSNews.com” www.cnsnews.com
Conservative News (Pro-Christian): “WorldNetDaily” www.worldnetdaily.com
Conservative Views: “The Patriot Post” www.patriotpost.com
Please feel free to offer any other suggestions that you may have, as this list is only a partial glimpse of the bigger picture.
Now, go out and educate yourself! Be blinded by the Leftwing Liberal media no more!

Good stuff Quill… This is a timely post as we have recently seen a push from the Left for this “Fairness Doctrine”. Bill Clinton stated: “Well, you either ought to have the Fairness Doctrine or we ought to have more balance on the other side, because essentially there’s always been a lot of big money to support the right wing talk shows and let face it, you know, Rush Limbaugh is fairly entertaining even when he is saying things that I think are ridiculous….”
Apparently Bill never watches TV. What about Keith Olberman and the rest of the MSNBC stooges, CNN, the ABC, NBC, CBS? It’s Fox News against the rest of the TV news world. When Bubba starts a crusade to get a little fairness on the tube I’ll give him his due….. Like that will ever happen.
As for radio, stations run programming that pays the bills… Who sells ad slots and who pulls listeners is who gets the slots. The “fairness doctrine” does nothing but eliminate the free market. There is a reason Air America went belly up, no one listened!!! I promise that if there is a void that needs to be filled, station owners would do so because it would mean $$$$.
Be happy you have the TV market virtually cornered, leave the radio to us.

I agree with most of this article. I have a very hard time watching most major news stations, even though I tend to lean to the “left”.
However, I must disagree with you Corey. Websites like the Drudge Report are the most balanced, in my opinion; not leaning toward either side. Though the webmaster created headlines in DR sometimes represent a particular bias, I find it to be the best source for non-biased articles on the web. I love that site and use it everyday.
If I do listen to the radio, I find that most of the panel talks on NPR do a great job representing both sides of arguements with both parties represented equally. I never understand what people talk about when they say NPR is “leftist”. For Pete’s sake they have a program called “All Things Considered” among many other things. There is one program on Sunday mornings called “Wait Wait, Don’t Tell me” that is a panel of comedians reviewing the weeks news, but they take jabs at anything funny or out of the ordinary.
I find NPR to be much easier to listen to than WBT as WBT tends to be flooded with angry hosts, callers, and a “victim’s viewpoint”. WBT has become a “Last Refuge” for displaced conservatives, in my humble opinion. Not saying that is a bad thing, but there is always a tone of retaliation going on at that station that makes for uneasy listening for me.

Bill O’Reilly is an angry Irish neocon.

Does anyone else kind of get the feeling that all the corporate news agencies are cut from the same cloth and that if we really break down these stories, less the tragic, and sad, that it really is much a due about nothing? I mean when did we become so transfixed with these peoples opinion? Cue the Jaws music and hit the warning siren graphics, then cut to Katie live on site.
You know what I long for? I long for a country where people worked until dark hit the showers and ate dinner. You know; a place where you could play a nice board game with your family before reading your kids a bedtime story and hittin the hay to discover the same day tomorrow. Instead who have we become? Talk radio into work, 15 minutes of panic on our break, if we are lucky at lunch they’ll have the tube turned up incase the terror alert raises to orange, talk radio on the way home into Prime Time Panic and Distrust. I guess my point is, you have pointed out several conservative outlets, you have discredited the effectiveness on liberal media, and you have painted a picture like these entertainers are just days away from becoming martyrs under this sinister new regime. All fair enough, but I just long for the days when we could have multiple sides to an issue and not have to strive to have (only) one way or the other. I think that is what America is all about but that might be just a little too liberal for some.

You forgot about C-Span
Over the last eight years they have portrayed the entire Bush administration as incompetent, irresponsible, arrogant, and deplorable. I can’t believe how bad they treated Rumsfeld and Gonzales. Hey Pinkos, did you ever hear of editing. Live footage:Hah! whose running that left wing think tank, Moveon.org?
