‘The Week That Was’ at “The Thirsty Quill” (November 17-21, 2008)…

Monday, November 17

‘The Quill’ kicked off its third week of publication with a “Letter From The Editor” by Corey Thompson. In it, Thompson took the opportunity to thank ‘The Quill’s’ growing base of supporters. He also defined exactly what “The Thirsty Quill” is all about (in regard to being a “Conservative-based Blog”), and issued a new challenge to readers to submit their own ideas and articles for publication. The response to the challenge was solid, as more readers sent in their ideas and suggestions, volunteered to submit future articles, and began to participate in the “Dueling Quills” open forums.

On Tuesday, Columnist Sean Flynn submitted a very candid assessment of the current bailout proposal as it pertains to the American Auto Industry. In the article, entitled “Obama’s Bailout Bingo: The Winning Numbers and The Letters U.A.W.,” Flynn ignited a firestorm of commentary and debate. Multiple comments and discussions in the “Dueling Quills” forums followed Flynn’s editorial.

First time Contributor John Liebner wrote Wednesday’s piece. In his article “California Has Spoken: An Open Letter To Governor Schwarzenegger,” Liebner went after Governor Schwarzenegger’s “conservative” principles by asking him to step in and squelch the growing violence and civil unrest that has followed California’s vote in regard to Proposition 8. Liebner challenged the Governor to uphold his sworn duty and make certain that the “will of the people” was respected…not passed off to liberal judges for further review.

On Thursday, Corey Thompson wrote an editorial that foreshadowed the looming era of single-party control over both the Executive and Legislative Branches. In “Serving A Sentence Of Democrat Dominance,” Thompson stated:

“A new era looms on the horizon in Washington, one that has promised to bring “change” and revive prosperity within America. Beginning in January, the Conservative base will be forced to serve a two-year sentence (at a minimum) of “Democrat Dominance.” This sentence, handed down by the high judge of American Politics (after Republicans were found ‘guilty’ by a jury consisting of our angry ‘peers’ and a left-wing media), must be served without the possibility of parole or early release.”

and…

“The next two years present us with an amazing challenge as Conservatives. How we react to the role of ‘underdog’ will say a great deal about our party and where it is headed. Even more so, the next few years will foreshadow the future of The GOP, and should provide us with a glimpse of the new faces that we will hopefully be seeing a lot of once we’re ‘released’ in 2010.”

Friday, November 21

‘The Quill’ closed the week out with a commentary on the growing economic meltdown. In his article “The Hole We’ve Dug For Ourselves,” Corey Thompson discussed in great detail just how far the market had fallen in the previous 12 trading days. Thompson did offer a glimpse of optimism (in addition to his criticism), when he stated:

“And while this slide continues (or more optimistically, reverses course), let me state that I sincerely hope and pray that things turn around soon…regardless of who our leader is.

I’m afraid that economic distress, like justice, knows no difference in party, race, age, or gender.

The hole that we find ourselves in today will take American shovels, not Republican or Democrat garden tools, to dig out of. It’s time we got serious about getting our hands dirty…together.”

‘The Week That Is To Be’ at “The Thirsty Quill” (November 24-28, 2008)…

This week we will celebrate the Thanksgiving Holiday by looking back upon our historical foundation as a nation. In addition, “The Thirsty Quill” will look at the present state of America and give thanks for what we still hold dear, despite the changes in our society that are pushing us away from conservative-based values. ‘The Quill’ may alter its traditional publication schedule this week to accommodate the holidays, our contributors, and our readers. Happy Thanksgiving!

Once more, readers are invited to submit their ideas and suggestions for future articles, post their comments on the feature pages, and participate in the discussions inside the forums (“Dueling Quills”).

If you are interested in submitting an article, please email Corey Thompson: corey@thirstyquill.com
