‘The Week That Was’ at “The Thirsty Quill” (November 10-14, 2008)
Monday, November 10th
“The Thirsty Quill” kicks off its second week with a pair of letters to President-Elect Barack Obama…beginning with Part 1…
In his letter to the President-Elect, Guest Columnist Charlie Pratt gives an “independent” (unaffiliated) and candid perspective on the forthcoming presidency of Obama. While he shares his hope for the future of our nation, Pratt is cautiously optimistic, and offers the incoming President his support “not of party or politic, but of liberty and justice for all.”
Tuesday, November 11th and Wednesday, November 12th
On Veterans Day, “The Thirsty Quill” releases a special late-edition with Part 2 of the letters to the President-Elect…
Following Pratt’s letter from a day before, Corey Thompson publishes one of his own. In stark contrast however, Thompson provides a more pointed and critical assessment of Barack Obama’s victory, and reflects upon his reasoning for not granting Obama his vote. In closing, Thompson does offer these remarks:
“So, as a fellow American and out of respect for the office that you will soon hold, I will call you “my President.” It will be out of love for country, not out of blind admiration for you, nor respect for your policies. While the majority have spoken and have voted for “change,” please know that even while you are my President, I will not waver, nor will I “change” the principles that make me the proud American that I am. Yet I will give you a chance, because ultimately your success will be bound directly to America’s success. And Mr. President-Elect, I earnestly wish for nothing less…”

In his article titled “Why The Republicans Lost (A Rant),” Corey Thompson outlines the key components of the sweeping Democratic victory from the previous week. His assessment covers the demonizing of George W. Bush, the venomous attacks of the media and the Hollywood icon bias, and the failure of the GOP to clearly define their agenda during the campaign season. In a final assessment, Thompson states:
“If the Republican base is to regroup and reform the party, we’ll first have to figure out just who we are, where we stand, and where we want to go…and who we want to lead the way. Only then can we figure out how to win back the faith of the “majority,” and ultimately carry them back up the slopes to that “shining city upon a hill.”

As a follow-up to Thompson’s ‘rant’ from Thursday, Columnist C. Julian White provides a different point-of-view in his article entitled “Why The Democrats Won (A Coronation).” While it may initially appear that White was giving his endorsement to Obama’s campaign and subsequent victory, upon further inspection, the reader will notice that he made a very sound and justifiable point from a genuine analytical perspective.
‘The Week That Is To Be’ at “The Thirsty Quill” (November 17-21, 2008)…
On tap for the coming week at “The Thirsty Quill” is an article outlining the mission and aims of ‘The Quill,’ along with a series of editorials on the upcoming season of “Democratic Domination.”
Once more, readers are invited to submit their ideas and suggestions for future articles, post their comments on the feature pages, and participate in the discussions that are just beginning to unfold inside the forums (“Dueling Quills”).
