“The Black Eye Of Perception”

By: Sean Flynn, Guest Columnist

I will not root for the failure of President-Elect Obama, I’m not in the business of biting off my own nose in spite of my face. However, I do think that a Liberal agenda isn’t the ‘change’ everyone really wants. The sheep of the United States of America got caught up in a flood of ‘change emotions’ without the benefit of a coherent plan to support the ‘needed change’…or the emotional intelligence to see what we are ‘changing,’ and why we are ‘changing’ it. This was an “impulse buy” at best, and the majority stood in line for hours to lay down their money to have an ownership stake in it.

The Congressional races were nothing more than getting caught in the undertow of political emotion; an “R” beside your name was a ‘scarlet letter’ that was nearly impossible to overcome Tuesday. Still, what’s done is done, and I’m not going to be the guy whining about having to take my medicine…we need it, and we deserve it.

Facts be dammed, this was the fault of George W. Bush. He was the sole reason for the blowout in the presidential race, the near fatal losses in the Senate, and the continued losses in the House according to all the unaffiliated and/or non-partisan <coughing> TV pundits. People believed what they heard from the empty suits on TV. They believed what they read in the papers… Perception is reality… Unfortunately, faulty perceptions can lead to the reality we have here today.

What you can do tomorrow is far more important than what you could have done Tuesday. I voted for “W” twice and “Mac” this time around, but I will not spend one second defending or talking about George W. Bush or John McCain. As far as this Republican is concerned, the sooner their names stop popping up regularly in conversation, the better it is for the party.

I want to talk about the new blood, not the old blood. I’ll let the history books worry about branding “W.” Me trying to change someone’s mind about the past 8 years isn’t going to help win the 2012 election.  The party needs an icepack, and then a makeover…and starting today, a few lessons on how to hold their own inside the political ring.
